Bullmarket French Bulldog Breeders

Site Bug Test Needed

I’m playing around with some Flash (I’m thinking of adding some to a new site I’m working on for another breeder), but I decided to test it out on my site before hand, just in case.

Can you please take a look, and fill out the small poll on the left side while you’re there?

Mostly, I just want to see how many people are using flash enabled browsers, and whether the number is high enough to bother adding it to the site. I also want to see how many people just find Flash annoying, rather than amusing. I won’t use it as an exclusive menu system yet, but I think it can brighten up a site if used sparingly.

Test page is here — https://www.bullmarketfrogs.com/index2.html

Thanks!

It looks great, I love those tabs across the top. You are SO good at this stuff.

The only caveat (heh) is that people with 56K dialup hate Flash and lots of graphic density. Yes, there are still people in that position. Do we care? That’s a tough one to answer :>)

uh… I personally dont’ like it.. on my computer it takes up way too much space on the top.. and I find it very distracting..

of course, I’m a flash hater.one of the reasons is because at work, they have blocked a lot of flash.. so when I’m on a break (yeah.. on a break.. riiiight) and surfing, I tend to blow right over flash menus.

I’m also a nut for nice simple design so maybe I’m not the one to ask.

    Hey Carol,

Sure it looks awesome. But at what cost? Having flash as a key part of a website is never a good idea. For one thing, people with iphones for example won’t be able to see it, and it’s a major part of the site. Another thing is that google isn’t so fond of flash either. If you really must use flash for it, though, make sure you have another way of navigating through the website, maybe at the bottom of it, or something like that.

Alternatives can include some jquery scripts which can sometimes do a little bit of action that resembles flash, and degrades gracefully for those people who don’t have flash enabled and google.

But anyway, I’m just an usability/accessibility/seo big big fan. I think flash is great if used as a presentational banner or cute details on the website, not as a way to present content. Just my two cents, to a fellow frenchie and webdev nutty like me! 🙂

    All the best,
    V

      Hey Viv —

I agree 100% – I would NEVER use flash as the sole means of navigating a site. I liked this file more for its display aesthetics, as opposed to making it a key nav tool. I do have to admit, though, that it makes displaying photos in a pretty way rather easy… perhaps TOO easy, considering how SEO unfriendly it still is.

That said, all my individual dogs galleries are now flash, because it’s simply the best way to make that each dog always has the latest pictures on their page.
