Happy Birthday Dear Puppies!

Black Masked Fawn French Bulldog puppy

Tula’s boys turned a week old yesterday, and we celebrated by shooting another video, which I’ll have uploaded for you tomorrow. Everyone is doing just peachy – Striker, our little pied foster baby (who is actually four days older, but now has the same honorary birthday as the boys, just to make my life simpler) is finally looking fat and sassy. He’s almost caught up with Tula’s two hulking big bruisers, and that’s saying something.

Here’s a question for you – do you find puppies at this age as unspeakably adorable as I do, or do you believe (as some nameless people do – ::cough::Fran::cough::) that they look more like little gerbils?

My veterinarian, who is a wonderful woman and a great doctor, took a final look at the fawn boy before we left the clinic the other day, and blurted out “They sort of look like rats at this age, don’t they?”. While I clutched my chest in mock horror, her groomer shrieked from the back room “Are you nuts? Don’t tell a breeder her puppy looks like a RAT!”. She apologized, and I pretended to forgive her (untrue, I’ll hold that grudge forever!), but I was simply stunned to learn that not everyone is as enamoured of puppies at this age as I am.

So, what’s your secret opinion? Lemme know on the poll, and below the cut you’ll find (quelle shock) yet more puppy photos.

    Snerk!

My vet once made the observation that one week old fawn EBs look like California golden ground squirrels. It’s been 18 years since that comment and I still think of it every time I get black masked fawns, dammit. 🙂

I think they start getting cute at around two months. Before that, well, they are just multicolored Fuzzylumps. I like looking at the mother being a mother, so that makes all the videos entertaining…

Nooooooo she didn’t!! I also love this stage. My Tallulah is 3 days old today, I hope I can get more sleep at times now, I feel like a zombie most of the times. But it’s so worthy. She is so cute and I loved watching her mom actually start acting like her mom, licking and all.

The BELLIES! The itty bitty PAWS! I would get chapped lips from kissing those bellies. Gerbils? Rats? What are they smoking?

I think they are ZOMG adorable (and I wonder how you get anything done. I would spend far too much time kissing the adorble little feetses.)

BUT I think they are even cuter a few weeks on- like 4-5 weeks. 😛 When they’re mobile (and in my breed, fluffy) but still adorable and cuddly-sleepy.

Awesome – I won a prize! I feel like I should do an entire Sally Field thing – “You like me, you REALLY like me!!”, but I know you’re all here for the puppies 😉

Well, at least I’m in good company if a vet agrees with me. I’m sure in a couple of weeks I’ll be drooling all over them with the rest of the world, when they start to look more like Frenchies.

I think it’s something to do with people named ‘Fran’. Fran on the Frenchie Friends Ning group read this, and replied “How did you know I thought they looked like little gerbils?”.

Adorable and not at all like rats or gerbils!! It’s hard to choose between the eyes closed, puppy breath, squirming around making cute lil noises and later when they give you the cute lil looks with their heads tilted, tails wagging, pick me up whining, and play growling!
