Hard to believe that the first of the puppies leaves this weekend. Pups at this age are wonderful – smart, playful, developing their full personalities. Pups at this age are also trouble – they’ve become adventurous, which can lead to some fun situations, and a LOT of mess.
Vela, Po and Jacques all venture out into the big world over the course of this weekend, off to learn how to be pets, rather than just members of a pack. Fortunately, Frenchies as a breed are very people focused – there’s no such thing as a people shy Frenchie puppy, at least not one that I’ve ever known. The typical reaction of a Frenchie to new people is “Yay, someone else to pet me!”. Trust me, they don’t even look back as they go out the door – the teary eyes are all on our side.
Bunny is quite ready for them to pack their bags and head on out – she’s had her fill of motherhood, and would like to get back to her place on the couch, thanks. Poor Bunny – she’s moulting again, just as she did with her last litter. Patches of her hair are thinned out and weedy looking. She looks moth eaten, and leaves clouds of white hair every where she goes. Sweeping the floor has become a game of trying to catch all the hair that floats around the room, without stirring up even more of it.
After the cut there’s a slideshow of all the pups outdoors, doing fun Frenchie stuff. Bye puppies – we’ll miss you!
The other night I did what I usually do while cleaning, and tossed Dexter outside into the fenced yard. It’s fenced with five foot chain link on three sides, and a 4 1’2 foot stone retaining wall on the fourth. The only dog it hasn’t been able to hold is Tula, who we discovered could – and would – happily scale the wall if it meant she could get to where I was at. Thankfully, unless I’m outside the yard, Tula never bothers to try to escape, and she’s never allowed access to this part of the yard if I’m not at home and watching her.
A great big wrap up post, with a bit of this and a LOT of that, including new puppy photos, the pay differences between good and evil, and why Naboo Tatooine is freaking me out.
Lola Banana – aka Lolita, aka Bullmarket Chiquita Lolita – celebrated her 11th Birthday over the weekend, and boy oh boy, can that girl party!
Even when one eyed and wearing a cone (another surgery, on her other eye – poor baby), little Miss Lola still looks simply divine and utterly fabulous. Lola, who was quite obviously a drag queen in a former life, has never met a feather boa or sparkly pink collar she would not gleefully wear, and her motto seems to be “If you’ve got it, add glitter to it”.
Shockingly, I just realized that Ms. Thing is actually a great great GREAT grandmother to Tula’s kids, and a great grandmother to Bunny’s. No babysitting, Lola – we promise.
The little brindle darling in the photos is Sushi – Penelope’s (possibly) smarter sister, who has discovered that you can abstain from motherhood and still achieve spoiled diva-dom. Way to go, girlfriend.
