A Guide to Wisely Spending Your HST Rebate

Tax Me, I'm Canadian

Canada's new official motto

I don’t normally post this sort of stuff, but this was just too good to not be shared.

Sometime this year, we taxpayers will again receive an Economic Stimulus payment i.e HST rebate. This is a very exciting program from the Ontario government.

I’ll explain it using the Q and A format:

Q. What is Ontario ‘s Economic Stimulus payment?

A. It is money that the provincial government will send to taxpayers.

Q.. Where will the government get this money?

A. From taxpayers..

Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?

A. Only a smidgen.

Q. What is the purpose of this payment?

A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn’t that stimulating the economy of Asia ?

A. Shut up or you don’t get your check.

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the Canadian economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:

1. If you spend the stimulus money at Wal-Mart, your money will go to China

2. If you spend it on gasoline, your money will go to Saudi Arabia .

3. If you purchase a computer, it will go to India .

4. If you purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico, Honduras or
Guatemala ..

5. If you buy a car, it will go to Japan or Korea

6. If you purchase useless plastic stuff, it will go to Taiwan .

7. If you pay off your credit cards, or buy stock, it will go to pay
management bonuses and be hidden in offshore accounts.

Or, you can keep the money in Canada by:
1. Spending it at yard sales or flea markets, or

2. Going to baseball or football games, or

3. Hiring prostitutes, or

4. Buying cheap beer or

5. Getting tattoos.
These are the only wholly-owned businesses still operating in Canada .

Conclusion:
The best way to stimulate the economy is to go to a ball game with a prostitute that you met at a yard sale and drink beer all day until you’re drunk enough to go get tattooed.

All the boys are doing well – Striker, the tiny pied boy, is gaining as much weight per day as the two beefy boys, and the fawn boy (nicknamed Sidney) is also doing well. Turns out his ‘gaping umbilical’ was really more of a ‘nicely healing umbilical’. Mea culpa when it comes to being overly protective.

Tula just wants us to stop fussing with her kids, and leave her to get on with motherhood. Happy to oblige, Tula.

Being Po Dogovich

The ever dapper Po, he of the very photogenic Life of Po blog, made the papers. More accurately, he made the gossip column in the National Post.

http://www.nationalpost.com/news/canada/toronto/story.html?id=2626321

It seems Po (mis named Napoleon in the article – as if Dustin and Flo would ever have named him something so pedestrian) was getting snuggles from John Malkovich at his mom and dad’s restaurant.

The writer’s description of their snuggle fest?

it was all too weirdly wonderful to behold

You know your dog is more famous than you when he’s mentioned in the papers making out with celebrities at hot spot restaurants.

More photos over on Po’s blog, along with some descriptions of his laissez-faire reaction to his brush with celebrity.

Our friend Hope took some photos of the lovely Mr. Luke (aka Bullmarket NewHope at SpiritDragon, aka Tula’s baby boy from her last litter) showing at the International Kennel Club dog show in Chicago this past weekend.

Luke, who is showing from the six to nine month old puppy class, took Reserve Winners Dog, which is a pretty big achievement for his very first time in the show ring. Way to go, Luke, and way to go to Luke’s co owner, Andrea Morden Moore. Andrea has been training him diligently, and it looks like its paid off.

I’m not sure of the name of Luke’s handler, but she looks like she did a great job.

With any luck, Luke’s sister Leah, who makes her debut in Canada at the Purina National Dog show, won’t let her brother leave her in the dust. Practice those stacks, Kristina! 🙂

(ps: thanks to everyone who emailed or called to ask about the babies – all three now seem to be doing just fine!)
