Delilah is almost seven weeks old…and new video!

Yup, time sure does fly. Delilah will be seven week old this coming Tuesday. Like most French Bulldog puppies at this age, she’s going through that sometimes cute-sometimes weird phase, all gawky puppy feet and limbs. Only one ear is up consistently, with the other either flopsying all over the place, or flying half mast.

She is her mother’s daughter, with a jaw that can unhinge like an anaconda, and a voice she likes to use. A lot. She gave me puppy growls when I wiped her down with a cloth the other day, and she spends a lot of time dragging her tug toys around, quietly growling under her breath. She wasn’t thrilled with her first venture outside, but other than that she’s remarkably hard to phase.

She’s weaned onto raw now, and we feed her three times daily. She still gets a bowl of goat milk with every meal. Sailor still nurses her, and she sleeps with Delilah every night. I’m so lucky – Sailor is such a wonderful mom, just like Tessa was. I hope Delilah and Penelope have inherited this trait.

Delilah is going to be almost the spitting image of her mom, complete with Sailor’s slightly too-long nose and her wonderful breathing. She has tight little cat feet, a tail that’s finally starting to carry lower, and a lovely arched neck.

She gets a minimum daily dose of ten thousand kisses per day.

And… a new video! After the break.

Breeding a French Bulldog Litter for 'Fun' – Part Two

Part One

I’ve been engaged in a back and forth correspondence with someone who contacted me by email asking about breeding a litter. I’ve removed all of their identifying details. Here’s the second part of our emails.

Her response to my earlier email:

Wow! Are you serious!! I am imagining you have detailed the steps in an attempt to show me how silly my question was. Sorry. From your web page I assumed you were a tad more genuine then you have come off in your email. Maybe “genuine” is not the word I am looking for. I thought you could provide direction or information that was attainable. I do hope you got some amusement out of writing your response. Good luck with your special dogs. You must be proud!

..and my reply, after the break.

Enjoy…

Hello, My name is xxx and I just visited your website. I am looking for another frenchie to breed with my sweet, smart as a whip xxxx. No, I am not a breeder and I do not plan on becoming one. You see, this dog has brought so many people in my immediate family happiness, I believe he should be cloned (sort of speaking) so that everyone can have a piece of him! It was my younger son who purchased xxxx from a Breeder in Brooklyn NY.

xxx has a great look! He is a smooched faced frenchie (is there a name for that?) and he is black except for some small white markings. When my son got as a puppy, he was in school and still had a schedule that permitted plenty of time to be with him. Then summer came, and it was way too hot for to be living in the city so he came to vacation with me. You guessed it, me the furthest thing from a dog lover, fell in love with this dog and don’t really want to let him go. During this year, both my husband who has xxx and has become disabled and my xxxx who has been ill have been so entertained by this dog. I know my dear son feels bad about asking for xxx.

Anyway, that is my story and I am looking for a mate for xxx. I don’t have a lot of money and I know adopting is out since the females come spayed.

Please let me know any info you have! thanks

A few less blogs for a while, and the PETA billboard controversy

I’ll be writing a few less blogs for the next few weeks – my car was t boned in an intersection yesterday, and my left hand is broken. One handed typing isn’t my forte…

I’ll just have to make Sean take more puppy photos – it’s high time he learned to use Flickr, at any rate.

Oh, and have you been following the controversy over PETA’s new billboard? In case you haven’t seen it yet, check out their new billboard campaign:

PETA nitwits

I prefer my alternate versions, personally – feel free to borrow either of them.
