The stupid train keeps on rolling…

From the Eagle Tribune:
Dog left in sun dies, another nearly perishes
By Mark E. Vogler
Staff WriterLAWRENCE — Police say a 21/2-year-old French bulldog died on a sun-baked balcony and another dog nearly perished because the pets’ owner left them there all day without food or water.
Ryan Colon, 21, of 20 Knox St., was arrested yesterday on animal cruelty charges in a case that appalled the police and firefighters involved in efforts to rescue the dogs after a concerned neighbor called the police.
“This is one of the worst cases of neglect or cruelty of an animal that I’ve seen in my whole career — almost 40 years of police work,” Lawrence police Chief John Romero said.
“Dehydration is a terrible way for an animal to die. It’s amazing that people could do that to any living being. The dogs weren’t beaten but were abused in the way they were left in conditions that killed one and almost killed the second,” the chief said.
The dead dog named Lola had an internal temperature of 108 degrees, according to a veterinarian at the Andover Animal Hospital who examined the corpse. The probable cause of death was listed as hyperthermia or heat exhaustion. The second dog was treated at Pleasant Valley Animal Hospital, where its internal body temperature was measured at 104 degrees.
Colon could face up to five years in state prison if convicted. He was due to be arraigned in Lawrence District Court today. He told Officer Kevin Schiavone that he had put the dogs on the balcony of his apartment at 2 a.m. before leaving for work on Wednesday.
Oh, and let’s not forget the part where he was breeding these dogs. Oh, of course he was. If we didn’t have idiots like this, where would the next generation of baked and broiled dogs come from? But, hey – just one litter, according to his brother:
This story is absolute Bull! My brother was good to his dogs he took very good care of them. The story mentions that they were outside since 2 am thats crap. And it says that he has had multiple litters with these dogs he has only had one litter.
Awesome..
More old Frenchie photos…
/1 Comment/in French Bulldog Stuff, Frenchie Family /by frogdogzStill digging through the literally hundreds of old Frenche photos I have stashed away in boxes, bins and books. I’m ashamed to admit that, as I start to get to the bottom of the pile, I’m running into photos of dogs that I have no idea who they are. Granted, they are puppy pictures, but still. Senility, she is le bitch…
Dunno what puppy this is.. but he’s a cutie!
Here’s someone I could never forget – this is Barb’s lovely Roseanne, aka Bullmarket A&As Stripe Ts. It was a hot day, so her mouth was hanging open, but you can still see what a beautiful girl she was. She was a gorgeous, unusual color – a sort of silvery brindle. Just gorgeous.
Here’s another utterly unforgettable beauty – my beloved, and dearly missed, Chicky girl. She was bred by Jane Gil, and her full name was Fulla Bull’s Bullmarket Chicky. Not only was she my joy, but she was my daughter Nicole’s most beloved dog. Chicky was one of the great tragedies of my life – she was, believe it or not, able to climb chain link fence. Funny, isn’t it? Except that she climbed the chain link into our neighbour’s yard, and fell into his pool and drowned. I’ll always, always regret her loss.
Chicky begat the lovely – and thankfull still her – Lolita, aka Bullmarket Chiquita Lolita. Lola is celebrating her tenth birthday this weekend, party and all, with her owner Maggie Montgomery (yes, I got the email! Answer coming this afternoon after I get off work). Lola lives with Penelope’s sister, Sushi, in downtown Toronto.
Lola is mom to Felix and Diva, who I posted a photo of yesterday.
More old photos coming soon, and some of my favorites over on the Frenchie Photo Blog.
So much for her girlish figure…
/2 Comments/in French Bulldog Stuff /by frogdogzIf I had any remaining doubt about Tula being preggers, it went out the window when I shot this photo of her. Holy cow!
Honestly, I hadn’t really noticed how huuuuge she was until I took a good look at this picture. Considering how svelte Tula normally is, this is a pretty dramatic change for a dog who’s only one month and change into her 62 day pregnancy.
Dexter continues to grow up – unfortunately, he’s started to sit when there’s food on offer. When it’s snacking time, all the dogs have to do a good, solid sit to get their treat – looks like he learned by imitation.
Uh oh…
That’s a no no for a dog with a (hopeful) future in the conformation show ring. Back to the drawing board – I need to train him the ‘stand’ command all over again. On the plus side, way to learn the sit command, Dexter! Now, just don’t tell Barb.
Hey, want to see some old photos of our dogs? I just uploaded almost 160 old French Bulldog photos onto Flickr – and I have about another 200 to scan. These ones aren’t organized yet – they don’t even really have proper titles, but feel free to check them out. There are some interesting shots in there – take this one, for example:
That’s a shot of Felix, to the left, and Diva, in the center, along with their siblings.
Diva is Bunny’s mom, and Tula’s great grandmother. Felix is Elliott’s dad. So, in this photo, you have two dogs who will both appear in the pedigree of the puppies Tula is carrying. This is important, since the dogs who came before my dogs today, will influence the dogs that we produce tomorrow.
Interesting stuff, if you’re interested in that kind of stuff.
