2000 Miles

I admit it – I’m not a huge fan of Christmas music.

Most of it is just not very good, musically speaking, and I am one of those grinch-y people who change the station as soon as they hear it start to play. That’s why it came as such a shock to me the other day to realize that, not only did I know all of the words to the Christmas song playing on the radio, but I was also singing along – and it wasn’t even a remotely GOOD Christmas song, either – it was one of the worst, most schmaltzy, most cartoony Christmas songs ever written – “Snoopy’s Christmas Song”, as performed by a justly long forgotten 1960’s band called “The Royal Guardsmen”.

Think you don’t know it? If you’re over a certain age, I promise you do – and if you think you don’t, just click this link. Warning – you will NEVER get this song out of your head, unless you are willing to voluntarily undergo a lobotomy.

In direct comparison, check out this live version of Chrissy Hynde’s “2000 Miles”.  It will always be one of my favorite songs, Christmas or not.

Yay for Puppies!

Delilah says "I ain't birthin' no babies".

After a year and change for Delilah, and a year and half for Bunny, both girls have decided to take another shot at motherhood.

A house full of hormonal girls is making my life very interesting at the moment, and it’s about to get even more so with the arrival this weekend of the adorable – and very adolescent hormonal – Zeus, aka Bullmarket Absolut Notorious. In the space of a month, Zeus has gone from Mr. Innocent to Mr “I’ll Hump Anything That Moves”, so this should be fun vacation (for him, at least).

I’m crossing my fingers that Penelope will decide NOT to take part in the annual festive parade of hormones, as if she does I’ll have no other choice but to breed her. Her little brush with pyometra last time she was in season means that this cycle is do or die for her – it’s babies or spayed for our little Punky Princess. Personally, I’m hoping for puppies, but I’m hoping even more that she’ll go against the tide and wait until spring… or later.

For more details on puppy plans, check out our litter news page. Oh, and cross your fingers, because the last time we tried this, all of the girls missed. Breeding Frenchies sure is fun.

Harley — update, adopted!

Update: Harley is adopted. Look for a post on his story soon!

Harley, French Bulldog foster dog available for adoption
I don’t know if anyone remembers Harley, but he was the water chasing Fawn Frenchie that we were fostering earlier this summer. As of this weekend, Harley is back with us again, since things at his new home haven’t quite worked out as planned. Harley and his new Frenchie sister never did settle their differences (said differences consisting of her saying “You suck, get out of my house” and his saying “Please stop biting me on the ear”).

Harley is a young, healthy, energetic Frenchie. His only health issues are food allergies which are being controlled by a raw diet, which he MUST remain on. Since he had a bad experience in his current home with another Frenchie, we’re looking for a home with either no other dog, or with a dog who is proven and temperament tested NOT canine aggressive. Harley is very handsome, and weighs about 26 pounds. He is neutered, microchipped and current on all shots and preventatives.

Harley is located in Southern Ontario, and is available for adoption to approved homes willing to travel to meet him.
