Does Organic Really Matter in Raw Pet Food?

shutterstock_3035834

I have been immersed in the world of organic pet food lately, and I’ve discovered some interesting things.

For the people who really, truly care about this issue, almost nothing is more important to them when it comes to their pet food ingredients. They want 100% Organic certified ingredients, and nothing else will do.

Other people feel it depends a great deal on price – if they can get organic raw dog or cat food, for a price that’s in line with what they pay for their non organic raw pet food, they’ll pick the organic brand.

A final group either don’t really care one way or the other, or feel that organic is more about hype than it is about real benefits, at least when it comes to their pet’s raw diet.

How about you? I’d appreciate your feedback. How much does that “Organic Certified” label mean to you, when you’re shopping for raw dog or cat food for your pets?

Guinness is Good For… Your Dogs?

guinness-is-good-for-you-photo_989516-770tall

My Grandmother used to give her dogs a rather unique breakfast. Every day started with a dish of steel cut oatmeal, two raw eggs (including the shells) and a pint of Guinness Stout. When asked why, she’d always tell us that “everyone knows Guinness is good for you”.

Turns out that there might be scientific proof for that after all.

Woofstock in Toronto on Saturday!

Pets 4 Life and Bullmarket French Bulldogs at Woofstock in Toronto

If you’re in or near Toronto, and love dogs, then you probably know that this weekend is Woofstock – North America’s Biggest outdoor festival celebrating all things dog!

I’ll be there with Pets 4 Life, and I’d love it you stopped by to say hello. I’ll have Bunny with me, and we’d love to talk about French Bulldogs and raw feeding.

Pets 4 Life will have some free samples of our frozen raw pet food (while supplies last!), and we’ll have some of our awesome Elk Antler Chews, Baked Treats, Life Essentials and Best in Show Probiotic on sale, all at great prices.

By the way, I rarely rave about products, and I almost never push the company I work for, but if you own a dog or a cat, you have GOT to get some Best in Show – this stuff is absolutely amazing. I never put any of my guys on antibiotics without also giving them a tube of Best in Show, and I never wean my puppies without also starting them on it. If you have a puppy from me, you already know all of this, because I never let anyone take a puppy home without a tube of it in their puppy kit! I know breeders who swear that Best in Show has saved entire litters for them, and trust me, breeders are a cynical bunch – if it doesn’t work, we’re not buying it.

Anyway, come on by the booth if you’ll be at Woofstock – we’re near Front and Church, right next to McCann Dog Trainers. I’ll only be there on Saturday, but Pets 4 Life is there for the whole weekend.

Evangers and the FDA – Everything Old is New Again

The recent FDA letter isn’t the first time that Illinois pet food company Evangers has tangled with the Food and Drug Administration. Back in 2008, the FDA issued an “Order of Need for Emergency Permit”, after Evangers failed to follow the prescribed method of production for their canned raw pet food products.

Then, as now, Evangers handled it pretty much exactly how you do NOT want to see a pet food company deal with a recall.
